Then Mr. Andy Reich, Coordinator of the Aquatic Toxins Program for the Florida Department of Health delivered the key note address. His presentation on both fresh and salt water toxins was very well received and generated some excellent discussion. Next, the meeting began an interactive phase with facilitators eliciting environmental health concerns from the participants. This process produced a list, (see attached spread sheet), of environmental health issues/concerns from the community that were then ranked by allowing each participant to identify their top three concerns using colored dots on the newsprint lists. After a short wrap up and closing remarks, a drawing was held to award a door prize to one lucky participant. The prize, a half-day chartered (fishing or eco-tour) trip was donated by Wolfmouth Charters. he meeting was successful overall with just over 30 in attendance including one of our County Commissioners.
Sponsors for the meeting included the Sarasota County Health Department, Siesta Key Association, and of course, our PACE EH Assessment Team. Refreshments were provided by the Siesta Key Association. n addition to using meetings to gather community environmental health concerns, we also introduced a survey developed so that it can be mailed in or completed on line, (see attached survey). Along with our first meeting, we also launched our Sarasota Coastal Communities PACE EH Web Site. You can view the web site at www.ourgulfenvironment.net
