July PACE-EH Update
As of July 16, 2004 the following has been
accomplished within the Collier city community.
Four meetings with Gatekeepers within the community
(Dorothy Jones (Collier City Community Development Council), Deborah
Floyd (Director of Jan Moran, Collier city branch library), Blondie
Jenkins (Charles Drew resource center) and Stacey Brown (Dave Thomas
Educational Center), Ms. Gibson (Director at Charles Drew Resource
Center). The meeting with Ms. Gibson included three employees/adult
students of Charles Drew Center.
Participated in Collier City Library, Back to School
Health Fair (sponsored by Holy Cross Hospital). The health fair was
used as an opportunity to speak to youth about community issues.
Plans have been made to schedule 1st town meeting,
with regards to PACE-EH project, at the Collier City Library.
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday August 17, 2004
with Mr. Walter Hunter, President of Collier City Homeowners
Association.
I have also met with Employees of the City of Pompano
Beach community development to discuss progress, plans, and
resources for collier city residents (Debra Chatman, Mark Leaf,
Bernard Jones).
Also I have spoken to Rev. Grover Johnson, significant
gatekeeper, about upcoming events and collier city history (noted
that the city planned to have a “first families” celebration in the
fall).
Plans are currently being made with Broward Department
of Health, Health Education Outreach Division to present a workshop
on HIV/teen pregnancy at the request of Ms. Gibson, to teens at the
center. Grant writing workshop was also requested by Ms. Gibson.
