February, 2005 PACE-EH Report
To:
Daniel Parker, MSP, GAL
Assistant Division Director, Division of Environmental Health
From: Wendy Roberts,
PACE EH Coordinator
Date: February,
2005
Subject: February PACE EH Update
We had two meetings during the month of February. The first meeting of
the month was held on Monday, February 14, 2005. A total of 13 residents
attended. During this meeting we defined the actual geographical area we
will be working with to the residents. A poster size aerial map was
created by Growth Management to display the area. It was decided that
the following streets will be the defined geographical area in the
project: Page Street, London Street, Pettway Street, Washington Street
and the side streets between Pettway and Washington streets. The
residents agreed with this area for the project.
The team name was finalized, which will be Gomez Community- Based
Environmental Health Assessment Team or Gomez CEHAT. In order to keep
the momentum of the group it was decided that we should meet every two
weeks instead of once a month. Thus, we had two meetings for the month
of February. The community members also came up objectives for the
project. Lastly, we listed the environmental health issues facing the
community. These are the issues:
1. Bad Habits
2. Lack of Fire Hydrants
3. Speeding
4.Yard Cuttings
5. Animal Control
6. Garbage Cans with out lids
7. Litter
8. Well water
9. Exhaust Fumes
10. No Bathroom Facility in Park
11. Street Lights
12. Standing Debris
13. Vacant Houses
14. Noise
15. Crime
16. Street Signs
17. Street Names
18. Electrical Lines
19. Poor Conditions of Telephone Lines
20. After storm recovery.
Some additional issues were added to our list that was not previously
mentioned. For the February 28th meeting, a table was created to help
with task six, analyze the issues with a systems framework. The table
had questions for resident response to analyze each of the twenty
environmental health issues. We thought it would be easier for the
residents to understand the process rather than using the format in the
guidebook. The second meeting of the month was held on Monday, February
28, 2005. A total of ten residents were in attendance. Our main
objective for the meeting was to analyze all twenty of the environmental
health issues facing the community. We were able to analyze nine of the
issues before running out of time. It was agreed that the remaining
issues will be completed at the next meeting on Monday, March 14, 2005.
As of February 28, 2005 we have completed tasks 1-5.
