MADISON and JEFFERSON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENTS
July PACE-EH Update
July 13, 2004
We have already established a lot of positive
things, all heading in the right direction. We have the Florida
State University COM working on community needs assessments for both
counties and I have an OPS worker coordinating a project to map out
all of the opportunities for outdoor physical activity in the
county, ie. Walking trails, bike trails, parks, rivers for canoeing,
etc. She is working with DEP - rails to trails, greenways and
trails, Game and Freshwater Fish Commission and local officials. We
will make a nice glossy brochure with all of the trails pictured
with our CVH dollars. Then we will investigate all of the outlets
for physical activity that are indoors. We have a meeting set with
the Mayor and City Clerk to determine future direction and will be
working with an already established visioning committee in Jefferson
County. I have met with school officials to determine their greatest
needs to promote physical activity during the school day (these
schools do not even have basketball goals!) We will have at least
four meetings throughout the year with the public in each county to
discuss the needs assessment. I will keep you up to date, but not
too shabby for only 13 days into the grant.
