Subject: Suwannee and Lafayette County PACE EH Projects, October
Report
Progress Summary
We continue to promote PACE EH and administer our community-designed
surveys at community meetings and events in both counties.
In Lafayette County, we took advantage of an excellent opportunity to
acquaint the community with PACE EH by administering surveys at a local
festival that is held annually. Also, we successfully translated our
Mayo PACE EH assessment into Spanish and administered the survey at an
event held specifically for the Hispanic American community in Mayo. We
have placed surveys and collection boxes in three locations in Lafayette
County: the Mayo Correctional Institution, Lafayette County Schools, and
the Mayo Post Office. We have collected approximately 200 surveys from
these sites which have been in place since October 14, 2004.
In Suwannee County, PACE EH Coordinator, Mary Taylor gave a community
presentation on the PACE EH process to a Neighborhood Watch group in
Wellborn. The group was excited about the opportunity to participate in
any project which can potentially improve the health of community
residents. There is a high degree of civic involvement in Wellborn and
several groups have expressed an interest in having presentations on
PACE EH. We have placed surveys and collection boxes in two Wellborn
sites: the Wellborn Post Office and a centrally located convenience
store. In December, the PACE EH Coordinator will conduct a focus group
activity with the Wellborn Neighborhood Watch group.
Progress/Success:
Suwannee County and the Wellborn community continue to display a
positive perception of the PACE EH project. The outreach efforts we have
conducted recently have reinforced this positive perception and we have
gotten meaningful feedback as a direct result of these efforts. In
Lafayette County the communitys perception of the project has improved
significantly. As with Suwannee County, the outreach efforts conducted
have allowed us to speak to community residents in an informal manner.
This is particularly helpful in small, rural counties. We have secured a
pledge of technical assistance from Suwannee River Area Health Education
Consortium who has offered to convert our survey instrument to a format
which can be scanned. They have agreed to furnish us with the tabulated
results from these surveys in both counties.
