HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
September PACE-EH Update

Date:      Sept. 28, 2004

To:         Daniel Parker, MSP, GAL

From:     Alexandra Fitos, MA
                PACE-EH Coordinator

Subject: PACE-EH Grant Update for Palm River, September 2004.

For the month of September, the Palm River LEAGACY team was unable to meet. Our regularly scheduled meeting on September 13th was cancelled due to Hurricane Ivan. We could not reschedule, so our next meeting will be October 11th. An extension has been granted so that Hillsborough County’s PACE-EH process will continue one additional month to January 2005. Storm activity has led to postponements or cancellations of community meetings and events, thus limiting survey collection.

In the meantime, individual team members have volunteered to distribute surveys.  Several felt that it would be a good to include persons that otherwise would be excluded from the process. In fact, this is how we have received the majority of our responses. Team members have been instrumental in the collection of survey data. Additionally, since the 7th of September (the official start date of the survey) I have spent several days a week at the Weed and Seed/ WIC office, along with receiving permission to set-up a table at the local library. The only problem with collecting surveys from these locations is that not all the people who receive their services are residents of Palm River.

Interestingly enough, residents and non-residents of Palm River often ask questions as to what exactly PACE-EH is and what the health department is doing. Surveys have gone out to a variety of community gathering points such as the GED and ESOL classes, several Civic Associations, the local economic council, and the community development corporation. The survey will be completed by the end of October. The survey period was extended to include more resident responses and community events. Data collected will be inputted into an Access database for easier analysis and report production.
