HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
May/June PACE-EH Update

June 8, 2004

To:              Daniel Parker, MSP, GAL

From:          Alexandra Fitos, MA,   PACE EH Coordinator

Subject:      PACE EH Grant Update for Palm River, April-May 2004.

Hillsborough County Health Department is scheduled to have its first community meeting for the PACE EH process on June 14th at 6:30.  The first meeting will take place at the Weed and Seed office on Palm River Road.  A press release was distributed on Monday June 7, 2004 (see attachment).

At this time Task 3 of assembling a CEHA Team is nearing completion. An alternate acronym has been selected for the CEHA Team, because Palm River already has a long established program in the area that utilizes the PACE acronym.  The new acronym embodies the CEHA’s Team expectations and commitments, plus spells out the word LEGACY.

  • Long-term commitment to completing the PACE EH process
  • Eagerness to see positive changes in environmental health through use of community initiated participation
  • Genuine concern for the community’s environmental health
  • Acknowledging the community’s ability to solve its environmental health issues
  • Consistently attending and participating in community meetings
  • Yearning for a healthy, safe and successful future

The members of the LEGACY team were solicited either at community meetings, in person, by telephone, or from a list provided by PACE EH process partners.  Meeting individual in person proved to be time consuming but very effective.  The least successful method was trying to recruit residents by telephone, which had a high rate of failure.

Currently the LEGACY Team has a diverse list of participants.  This is a tentative list and will expand once the first meeting is conducted. The list below additionally includes members who have limited participation or commitment, yet play a vital or specific roles throughout the PACE process.  Additionally, resident involvement, which is fundamental to this process, is being stressed and promoted during this third stage of CEHA Team building.
