Subject:  Highway Park PACE EH Project

1. Project Summary

The validation of the Baseline Community Survey conducted in January was completed this month. Fifteen (15) community issues surfaced during the survey. Total of 9 issues were rated as first priority items, leaving 6 in the second priority category.

The First Priority Issues or Concerns are: Water Safety, Cleanliness of Air, Septic System & Sewage, Alcohol & Substance Abuse, Recreational Equipment & Facilities, Health Insurance, Roads & Sidewalk, Housing, and Multi-purpose Center. The issues classified as second priority items are as follows: Food Handling, Need for Diet Information, Presence of Stray Animals, Burglary and Theft, Domestic Violence, and certain Health Conditions. All issues and concerns were clarified and defined by the volunteers. During the community meeting, the priority and urgency of issues changed as follows:

  4. Recreational Facilities

  5. Multi-purpose Center

  6. Septic System

  1. Domestic Violence

  2. Food handling

The PACE-EH volunteers are now ready to plan for the programs needed to resolve the identified issues and concerns.

3. Outstanding Issues/Concerns

None Significant, the project going on as planned, with very minor issues.

3.1 The second issue of the Highway Park Newsletter done. Copies cannot be mailed to all households because of mailing and production costs. Considering that the Newsletter carries the project update, copies are distributed as follows:

  • All PACE-EH volunteers

  • 25 copies for the partner churches

  • Key government Offices with existing relations

3.2. Developed the Highway Park Set of Volunteer Commitments. This is for discussion during the scheduled general meeting of volunteers.
