DeSOTO COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT September Southwest Arcadia Neighborhood PACE-EH Project Report

Subject: Southwest Arcadia Neighborhood PACE EH Project Report
The DeSoto County Health Department has selected the Southwest Arcadia Neighborhood to implement our first PACE-EH project. Recognizing the importance of laying a strong foundation to ensure the success of our program, the first several months were spent gathering information and becoming familiar with the PACE process. Our CHD Administrator and EH Director attended the Southern Region PACE EH meeting in July. The Statewide PACE EH Liaison, Samuel Brobbey, Jr., visited us and toured the selected neighborhood, stating the area was ?ripe for a successful project?. We met with the City of Arcadia Administrator and several community leaders from the neighborhood. They expressed great enthusiasm for the project and a willingness to participate. We have brainstormed with a respected retired health educator from the community who has given valuable input and is committed to actively participating in the process.
We have developed a position description for our PACE Coordinator and expect to have it posted this week. We are planning an initial Southwest Arcadia Neighborhood meeting early next month. We are on the eve of shifting into high gear with this project.
Our work plan and process update below shows the progress made thus far and we are excited that our next report will demonstrate we are advancing the project.

3. Outstanding Issues/Concerns |
Our meetings with the community leaders have impressed on us that this project is expected to be met with great enthusiasm from the community. A barrier may be over coming past surveys unrelated to PACE that the community perceived as not being acted upon. We are anxious to get a coordinator on staff prior to our first community wide meeting. It is critical to have this person lead this important meeting as he/she will be the primary contact for guiding this process. We will familiarize all involved to the methodology so there are no misunderstandings regarding outcomes.
