Training Center
The Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Onsite Sewage Programs contracts with the Florida Onsite Wastewater Association to operate and maintain a hands-on training center for department field staff and septic tank contractors.
In Florida field staff and septic tank contractors are both
required to be licensed by examination and require basic
training and continuing education.
While
the contract is funded by repair permit fees, local contractors
and wastewater professionals played a key role by donating time
and resources in the construction of the site. The center
promotes a hands-on approach to education and showcases a
variety of wastewater treatment alternatives. Its goal is
to elevate the professional state of practice both in the
regulatory and industry communities.
The center provides a number of hands-on workstations including
low-pressure distribution, pumps and controls, mound systems,
and tank innards. Another station provides field staff hands-on
experience in inspecting an onsite system. Soil pits are
also available on site.
The center offers a variety of basic and advanced courses.
